10pc tax slapped on rice import: Muhith

Finance Minister AMA Muhith today (Sunday) said the government has decided to impose 10 percent tax on rice import.

The minister made the disclosure at a pre-budget meeting with the chairmenof different parliamentary standing committees at the National Economic Council Auditorium in Dhaka this afternoon.

Muhith said the decision was made for the sake of the country’s farmers.

The minister also informed that the decision will take effect today.
