Alamgir Chairman, Azmir, Sultana Vice Chairman

In the 2nd phase of the 6th upazila election, the Chitalmari upazila election was completed in a breath-taking environment, ending all speculations centered on the election of Chitalmari Upazila of Bagerhat.

In this election, the current Chairman Ashok Kumar Baral and the founder President of Chitalmari Awami Jubo League and former GS and VP of Govt. Majid Memorial City College AGM Alamgir Siddiqui contested for the post of chairman.  A free, fair and transparent election was held on May 21st started 8 am in this hotly contested election due to tight security measures and very hard stance of the administration.  As a result, people voted for their preferred candidate in a festive atmosphere.  Although voter turnout was 50 to 55%.  It was a peaceful election on the whole except for the 6 months imprisonment by the Judicial Magistrate to 2 persons for violating the Election Conduct Rules. In this election, AGM Alamgir Siddiqui was elected U Parishad Chairman for the first time after defeating Ashok Kumar Baral by getting 8899 more votes for the post of Upazila Chairman.  He got 36,171 votes and his nearest rival Ashok Kumar Baral got 27,272 votes.

On the other hand, former Chairman of Hijla Union Parisad and Jubo League leader Kazi Azmir Ali has been elected Vice Chairman after defeating the current Vice Chairman and joint convener of Upazila Awami Jubo League Sheikh Mahatabuzzaman by 5778 votes. Kazi Azmir got 33,475 votes on the other hand the defeated candidate Sheikh Mahatabuzzaman got 27657 votes.

Meanwhile, Sultana Mallik, daughter of late Sirajul Haque Mallick, the founder President of Chitalmari Upzilla Awami League and the founder of Chitalmari Hasina Begum Girls High School, who is also the current president of the school established by her father, was elected by a huge vote by contesting for the post of Female Vice Chairman.  He defeated his nearest rival Charulata Bala Hira (Duck symbol) by a margin of 18,415 votes.  Sultana Mallick got 35,472 votes and her nearest rival Charulata got 17,057 votes.
