Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB) and Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) have praised the government decision for providing access to the Election Commission’s National ID (NID) database to verify the subscriber’s information before activating new mobile phone connections.
AMTOB believes that the verification process has to be comprehensive and should not deprive genuine subscribers, therefore the process should be made through appropriate consultation with all stakeholders, so that it becomes convenient for the subscribers and mobile telephony can reach to all spheres of life, being a very important infrastructure for the country’s GDP growth.
AMTOB hoped that the government would take initiative to provide further access to similar data bases in the future in order to facilitate MNOs to determine genuine subscribers much essential for protecting national security.
