On October 15, 2014, Dettol Bangladesh participated in the global Handwashing Day by going to schools and educating children on the importance of washing hands. Children took part in a Global Relay, where the handwashing habit was passed on from a school in Bangladesh to a school in UAE through virtually connected Dettol Basin.
Handwashing with soap is one of the most effective and inexpensive means of preventing the spread of disease and can reduce child morbidity rates from diarrhoea by almost 50 percent. In an effort to mobilize and motivate millions around the world to wash their hands, Dettol launched a global campaign, “Give life a hand” in more than 52 countries simultaneously to drive awareness and adopt good practices of hygiene.
Dettol Bangladesh also leveraged user-generated #handfies on social media platforms to pledge the public’s support. For every handfie shared, Dettol pledges to educate one child on healthy habits to break the chain of infection. The active participation and involvement of children, along with culturally sensitive community-based interventions aim at ensuring sustained behavioral change, a mission Dettol Bangladesh is proud to be a part of.
