DSE logs highest turnover in a year as market rallies

The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) recorded its highest turnover in 12 months on Sunday, with total transactions crossing Tk 1,440 crore on the first trading session of the week, signalling renewed investor confidence.

The previous record was set just days earlier, on 3 September, when the turnover reached Tk 1,397 crore, which at the time marked the highest in a year. Sunday’s trading has now surpassed that figure, establishing a new benchmark.

Alongside the surge in turnover, market indicators also showed a positive trend. The DSEX, the DSE’s key index, gained 21 points, while the blue-chip DS30 index added 5 points. The Shariah-compliant DSES index remained largely unchanged.

Of the 400 issues traded during the session, 248 advanced, 127 declined, and 25 remained unchanged. Gains were observed across all categories—A, B, and Z—with 146 of the 222 A-category stocks closing higher, 72 falling, and 4 remaining flat.

The DSE block market saw transactions worth Tk 31 crore across 40 companies, with Khan Brothers leading in block trades, selling shares worth Tk 11 crore.

On the day’s gainers’ list, Rupali Life Insurance posted the highest rise, gaining over 9 per cent, while Trust Islami Life Insurance led the losers, falling by 8 per cent.

The positive momentum extended to the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) as well, where the benchmark CASPI index rose by 22 points. Among the 255 issues traded, 143 closed higher, 86 declined, and 26 remained unchanged.

Turnover on the port city bourse also improved, reaching Tk 18 crore, up from Tk 12 crore in the previous session.

On the CSE, the Dacca Dyeing & MFC Co. Ltd topped the gainers with a 10 per cent rise, while New Line Clothings Ltd fell by 8 per cent, registering the session’s biggest decline.

Market analysts attributed the upbeat sentiment to growing investor participation, positive economic cues, and expectations of corporate performance recovery in the coming quarters.
