Indian agents in city to discuss regional terrorism

A team of agents from the Indian National Investigation Agency (NIA) has landed in Dhaka on Monday.

NIA agents previously visited Dhaka after the bomb explosion in Bardhaman of India. This time a high-level three member team of NIA led by its Inspector General Sanjib Kumar Singh came over to Dhaka on Monday just two days after the South Asian Al-Qaeda acknowledged its responsibility over the Avijit Roy murder.

Joint Commissioner of Bangladesh Police Detective Branch, Monirul Islam told reporters that the high-level team from NIA and Bangladeshi law enforcing agencies will discuss on internal affairs and stands on terrorism.

The team from NIA will stay in Dhaka for four days. The police joint commissioner Monirul told reporters that they will discuss for finding solutions of extremism related terrorism in the sub continental area.

“Not just the Bardhaman explosion case, the two countries have strengthen ties to tackle terrorism in the region. We plan to strengthen the ties and cooperation further,” said Monirul.

A high-level team from NIA led by its Chief Sharad Kumar came into Dhaka after the explosion case in October 2 last year. The Indian agency asked Bangladesh to share its knowledge about the extremists that might have been related with the incident.

Bangladesh responded positively to India’s request. Later on detectives from Bangladesh also visited India to discuss on counter-terrorism.
