Interim govt led by Dr Yunus sworn in

The new interim government of Bangladesh, led by Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has been officially sworn in by President Mohammed Shahabuddin. The ceremony took place at Bangabhaban on Thursday evening, starting at 9:00 pm.

Dr. Yunus arrived at Bangabhaban at approximately 8:25 pm, where he was warmly greeted by a large crowd that had gathered outside. Enthusiastic supporters, numbering in the thousands, had been assembling since the afternoon, cheering and chanting slogans in anticipation of his arrival.

Notable attendees included BNP leaders such as Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Mosharraf Hossain, Amir Khosru, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Amanullah Aman, Barrister Kayser Kamal, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, Khairul Kabir Khokon, Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, Tabith Awal, and Mizanur Rahman Minu. Diplomats from the UK, Japan, China, the Philippines, Iran, Argentina, Qatar, the Netherlands, and the UAE were also present.

Dr. Yunus’s swearing-in comes as Bangladesh faces a significant crisis following the collapse of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government.

Earlier, Dr. Yunus landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 2:10 pm, where he was welcomed by Chief of Army Staff General Waker-uz-Zaman and other officials. At the airport, Dr. Yunus met with the armed forces chief, civil society members, and student leaders to finalize the list of advisors for the interim government.

The advisory council includes Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Brigadier General (retd) M. Sakhawat Hossain, Dhaka University Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam (Asif Nazrul), Adilur Rahman Khan, AF Hassan Ariff, Md. Touhid Hossain, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Supradip Chakma, Farida Akhter, Bidhan Ranjan Roy, Sharmeen Murshid, AFM Khalid Hossain, Farooq e Azam, Nurjahan Begum, Nahid Islam, and Asif Mahmud.

General Waker had previously indicated in a press conference that the interim government might consist of approximately 15 members.
