JU protests killing of Publisher Dipan

Teacher, writer, poet and students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Sunday protested killing of Faisal Arefin Dipan who ran ‘Jagriti Prokashony’. Dipon was hacked to death in his office on the second floor of Aziz Super Market at Shahbagh.

Around at 11.00 am, under the banner of ‘Progotisheel Chhatra Jote’ numbers of student brought out a protest procession. The procession was started from the Social Sciences and ended at the Amar Ekushe premises following a rally were held there.

On the other hand, under the banner of ‘Kobi Lekhok Tintok of JU’ a good number of teachers, students formed a human chain at the Central Shaheed Miner premises around at 1.00 pm.

Condemning the incident Noted Economist Prof Anu Mohammad said Government has already failed to give the security of general people. They have given safety for terrorists rather than general people. If this culture of impunity is continuing, they (killer) will encourage killing of large-minded writers. He also demanded the maximum punishment for the killers as soon as possible.

On the rally, Zobair Tipu, president of Somajtrantik Chhatra Jote said in the name of Islam, some blind religious men hacked to death numbers of free thinker, blogger, writers. But Government has not taken proper steps. They also urged to the government to take proper steps immediately arrested the criminal and give them exemplary punishment.

Among others, Professor Nasim Akter Hossain, Prof. Sharif Uddin, Prof. Shamsul Alam, Prof. Khaled Hossain, Prof. Manosh Chowdhury, Prof. A S M Anoarullah Bhuiyah, Prof. Shamima Sultana, Prof. Sufi Mustafizur Rahman, associate Prof. Sayod Mainul Alam Nizar, associate Himel Barkat were present the protesting programme.
