JUJA protests Mahfuz Anam’s harassment

The Jahangirnagar University Journalist’s Association (Juja) has condemned and protested over filling of cases one after another against the Daily Star editor, Mahfuz Anam.

The demand came from a press release, signed by Belal Hossain Rahat and Moudud Ahmed Sujan, president and general secretary of Juja on Thursday.

The statement said, “In order to control over the media, the government body is continue to filing of these cases across the country, such move could put democracy and the freedom of speech at stake”.

“The cases were clearly politically motivated to harass Mahfuz Aman, editor of the front line English national daily, and to create panic in doing true journalism in the country, and we demand immediate initiatives to dismiss the issue”, it said.

In a press statement yesterday, they requested the government and all parties concerned to take steps so that the ongoing situation that amounts to harassing Mahfuz Anam does not go on.
