Mahfuz – Debdulal panel wins in BCS Election

The election of the management committee of Bangladesh Computer Society (BCS), the largest forum of Computer, e.g., Information and Communication Technology (ICT) professionals in Bangladesh having 13,000 (thirteen thousand) members, held on 19 December 2014 in Nilkhet High School. To win 9 posts of the management committee, a total of 33 candidates divided into three panels and independents participate in the contest.

The Dr. Mahfuz-Debdulal panel (MDP) jointly led by Professor Dr. Mohammad Mahfuzul Islam, Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Debdulal Roy, a DGM of Bangladesh Bank wins 5 posts out of 9 including President and the Secretary General. Another panel known as Hasanbabu-Tomiguudin panel (HTP) jointly led by Professor Dr. Hafiz Md. Hasan Babu from the Department of CSE of Dhaka University (DU) and Md. Tomig Uddin Ahmed, a System Analyst of Bangladesh Election Commission (BEC) wins 4 posts including treasurer.

The D8 panel led by Kazi Jahid from the Department of CSE of Rajshahi University did not win in any post. All the 7 independent candidates including one for President fail to win in the race. There were 2240 voters and only 763 of them exercise their voting powers.

Professor Dr. Mohammad Mahfuzul Islam from the Department of CSE, BUET has been re-elected as the president of BCS and got 389 votes. The nearest opposition Professor Dr. Hafiz Md. Hasan Babu from the Department of CSE, DU got 274 votes. The DGM of Bangladesh Bank, Mr. Debdulal Roy, has been elected as the Secretary General defeating Mr. Md. Tomig Uddin Ahmed, the System Analyst of BEC. Mr. Roy got 276 votes whereas his opposition leader got 265 votes. For the post of Vice-President (Academic), Mr. A S M Khairuzzaman (HTP), the chief Technical Officer (CTO) of Prime Bank is the winner getting 279 votes and defeating Mr. Md. Ziaul Islam (MDP), the System Analyst of Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC) who got 258 votes. The System Analyst of ERD, Mr. Mohd. Abdus Sobhan (MDP) has been elected as the Vice-President (Admin) getting 285 votes. His nearest competitor Mr. Md. Nurul Islam Mojumder (HTP), the AGM of Janata Bank Limited has got 228 votes. Mr. Abdur Rahman Khan Jehad (MDP), a Programmer of Rupali Bank Limited has been elected as the Vice-President (Finance) getting 342 votes and his nearest opposition candidate Mr. A J M Abu Afza (HTP) has got 225 votes.

Professor Dr. A K M Fazlul Haque (HTP) from Daffodil International University has been elected as the Joint-Secretary (Academic) getting 311 votes and his nearest opposition leader an assistant professor from the Department of CSE, Chittagong University Mr. Rezaul Karim (MDP) has got 257 votes. The post of Joint-Secretary (Admin) has been won by Mr. Zakiul Alam Sarker (MDP), a System Analyst of Bangladesh Bank by getting 205 votes and defeating his nearest opposition leader Kazi Mohammad Mahbubul Haque (HTP) who got 196 votes. Mr. Mamunur Reza Ibne Abedin (HTP) has been elected as the Joint-Secretary (Finance) getting 313 votes. His nearest opposition leader and the IT Consultant of IDEA project of BEC, A H M Abdur Rahim Khan (MDP) has got 281 votes. The only female contestant in the election Ms. Lafifa Jamal (HTP) who is an Associate Professor from the Department of CSE, DU has won the election as the treasurer getting 356 votes and her nearest contestant, Mr. Mohammad Moazzem Hossain (MDP), a Programmer of IMED has got 190 votes.

The management committee has been elected for 3 years (2015-2017) to run the operations of Bangladesh Computer Society.
