Tree plantation drive at Chhatak by Lafarge employees

Employees of Lafarge Surma Cement Limited (LSC) Plant carried out a three-day tree plantation drive at Chhatak in Sunamganj recently. This initiative was undertaken as part of Lafarge’s effort to engage employees in volunteering activities for the welfare of the society and environment. Around 200 Plant employees actively planted 1,000 trees during this three-day campaign.

Mr. Tarek Elba, CEO of LSC inaugurated the campaign by planting a tree in the link road beside the plant. The Mayor of Chhatak Mr. Kalam Chowdhury was the Guest of Honor for this program. The Operations Director of LSC Mr. Asim Chattopadhyay, Mayor of Chhatak, Ward councilors and school children also participated in the tree plantation program.

At the inaugural program Mr. Tarek Elba said, “As part of Lafarge’s Sustainable Ambitions 2020, every Lafarge employee will now have to dedicate a portion of their time every year for volunteering activities in locally beneficial projects. Lafarge has set a target of contributing 1 million volunteer hours per year by 2020. We have decided to contribute 1,500 volunteering hours in 2014.”

“Tree plantation was one such volunteering program conducted by our plant employees to achieve the target. A program for the Head Office employees will also be launched soon.”, he added.
