US Ambassador condemns Pahela Boishakh assault

The US Ambassador to Bangladesh, Marcia Bernicat has expressed her shock at the incident of sexual harassment the Dhaka University campus during the celebration of Bangla New Year.

Bernicat took to Twitter to express her condemnation. She tweeted: “Appalled to learn about 20 women assaulted during #PohelaBoishakh celebration at #Dhaka University. Let’s act to stop #ViolenceAgianstWomen.”

On 14 April evening, several women were sexually assaulted by 30-40 unruly youth. The incident has generated much condemnation and an uproar on the social media.
