Walton Premier Division Chess League kicks off

The games of the WALTON Home Appliance Premier Division Chess League-2014 sponsored by leading sports sponsor brand renowned company in Bangladesh R. B. Group and organized by Bangladesh Chess Federation began from yesterday (Wednesday) at the Media Center of Bangladesh Olympic Association.

Mr. F M Iqbal Bin Anwar (Dawn) Additional Director and Head of Games & Sports of R B Group inaugurated the event to present as chief guest. Mr. K. M. Shahidullah Chairman Tournament Committee preside the ceremony. Mr. Mohammad Jahangir Islam Vice-President, Mr. Gazi Shayiful Tarique General Secretary, Mr. Shamim Khan Joint-Secretary of Bangladesh Chess Federation and Mr. Mohammed Enayet Hossain President Chess Players Association gave addresses in the inauguration ceremony. Total 9 teams are participating in the event. First round game started just after inaugural ceremony. In the 1st round Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited played against Leonine Chess Club.

Georgian GM Mekheil Mchedlishvili of Dhaka Mohammedan won against FM Mehdi Hasan of Leonine. Other Georgian GM Merab Gagunashvili, GM Ziaur Rahman and IM Abu Sufian Shakil of Dhaka Mohammedan played accordingly CM Sohel Chowdhury, CM Monir Hossain and Uten of Leonine. Spanish GM Anton Guijarro David of Leonine not takes part 1st round game. Last year Runners-up Bangladesh Navy Chess Team played against Fire-Service & Civil Defense Sports Club.

GM Abdulla Al-Rakib, IM Minhazuddin Ahmed, FM Sk. Nasir Ahmed and FM Kh. Aminul Islam played against FM Rezaul Haque, Mohammed Enayet Hossain, Mohammed Mainuddin and P. J. Bakul Barua. Titas Club played against Sultana Kamal Smirity Pathagar and Bangladesh Navy Chess Team (Junior) played against Pritam-Prism Chess Club Narayanganj. Gopalganj Chess Club changed Bangladesh Navy (Junior) and Access Group Chess Club did not participate. The event is being held in round-robin league system. Access group already relegated in 1st Division, last team out of 9 teams after end of the event also relegate in 1st Division.

First round was rest day of Sreejan Chess Club. 2nd round games will start today (Thursday) from 2:00 PM at the same venue.
