CA Yunus holds emergency meeting to decide on US tariffs

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Saturday held an emergency meeting with top experts, advisers and officials, giving necessary directives to deal with the US tariff issue. Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Taouhid Hossain, High Representative to CA Dr Khalilur Rahman, Chief Adviser's Special Envoy Lutfey Siddiqi and Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur were, among others, present at the meeting held at State Guest House Jamuna to discuss the US tariff issue, CA’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder told UNB.

NBR to response to US counter-tariff tomorrow

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) is set to hold a meeting tomorrow, 6 April, to decide on its next course of action in response to the recent 37% counter-tariff imposed by the United States under the Trump administration.

According to officials, the NBR is currently assessing whether there is any possibility of reducing customs duties on imports from the United States as a reciprocal measure.

US President Donald Trump announced reciprocal tariffs to match duties put on US goods by other countries, ratcheting up a trade war he kicked off on his return to the White House.

Commerce Ministry too calls emergency meeting on Trump’s tariffs

The Bangladesh Ministry of Commerce has called an urgent inter-ministerial meeting tomorrow, Sunday, to determine the course of action regarding the United States' imposition of retaliatory tariffs. The primary objective of this meeting is to review the issue of counter-tariffs and establish the next strategic steps.

This meeting will not be held in person; instead, officials from various ministries and agencies will participate virtually via a Zoom link.

Bangladesh is likely to experience one or two severe heat waves in the current month, said the Met Office. NBR looks to expand base of VAT payers

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has taken a move to expand its Value Added Tax (VAT) base, with a view to increasing revenue collection for the national exchequer.
