Rubaba joins BCB as board director

Rubaba Dowla, corporate leader and sports organiser, has officially been named a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), weeks after her selection was first approved following the board elections last month.

The National Sports Council (NSC) on Monday issued a letter confirming her as one of its two nominated directors on the 25-member BCB board, completing the lineup under newly elected president Aminul Islam.

Nobel Economics goes to trio for work on tech-driven growth

The Nobel Prize in Economics was awarded on Monday to American-Israeli Joel Mokyr, Frenchman Philippe Aghion and Canadian Peter Howitt for their work on the impact of technology on sustained economic growth. The death of renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg on September 19 in Singapore has rekindled reflection on the enduring cultural bonds between the Indian state of Assam and Bangladesh. Garg, aged 52, died from drowning while swimming at Lazarus Island without a life jacket. While initial reports speculated about scuba diving, a post-mortem conducted in Singapore confirmed drowning as the official cause of death. He was transported to Singapore General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead in the ICU at approximately 3 pm BST.

Johan Buse new CEO of Banglalink

VEON Ltd. (Nasdaq: VEON), a global digital operator (“VEON” or the “Group”), today announces that Johan Buse has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Banglalink, VEON’s digital operator in Bangladesh, effective 6th April 2025.
