Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has expressed optimism about reaching a fresh loan agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), citing progress in negotiations following several meetings. Further discussions are scheduled over the next two days.
Speaking on the opening day of the IMF-World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok today (12 October), the minister said the differences between the two sides were limited.
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday called for concerted efforts by the government, families and society to end ensure girls’ safety and education, end child marriage, and create opportunities for them to achieve their full potential.
“Child marriage is not just a marriage. It is the end of a childhood, a disruption of education and a waste of potential,” he said while addressing a programme marking International and National Girl Child Day 2026 at Bangladesh Shishu Academy.
