BD gets $ 167m loan from ADB
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $167 million loan to promote sustainable economic growth and reduce poverty in Bangladesh by improving production efficiency at a key gas field north of the capital Dhaka and by expanding transmission infrastructure.
The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is expected to lend an additional $60 million, subject to board approval, which will be managed by ADB. It is the second project to be cofinanced by ADB and AIIB.

Bangladesh buys two submarines from China
Bangladesh took delivery on Monday of its first submarines, bought from China, as it seeks to boost its naval power in the Bay of Bengal.
Bangladesh paid a reported $203 million for the two submarines, a deal that reflects the country’s growing economic and defence ties with Beijing.

Obama moves for universal health care – in BD!
The Obama administration’s desire for a universal health-care system soon may be fulfilled – in Bangladesh.
It is there that U.S. taxpayers potentially face an initial $90 million “investment” solely to design such a system.
The Advancing Universal Health Coverage, or UHC, initiative in Bangladesh “would help to increase health insurance coverage on a massive scale,” says the U.S. Agency for International Development, or USAID.

BD imports from top 10 source countries more than 67pc
67 per cent imports of Bangladesh are now coming from top 10 source countries. In the last fiscal year (FY) 2015-16, the countrys total exports were valued at $36.75 billion. This excludes that of the Export Processing Zones, according to the Bangladesh Bank (BB) data.

New India-Bangladesh MoU to expand ‘Border Haats’
The agreement signed in October 2010 between India and Bangladesh for setting up ‘Border Haats’ expired in 2013, but four such markets continue to operate and six more are likely to come up soon.
Indian and Bangladeshi officials say that a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) to operate ‘Border Haats’ would be signed by this year-end or early next year.
