Caritas urges to ensure more labor rights

Bangladesh needs to do more to ensure labor rights in the country, says a Caritas official reacting to the U.S. keeping the country off its list of developing nations who enjoy special trade privileges. “If Bangladesh can ensure labor rights, and regain the generalized system of preferences, the industry can make even more progress and the workers will benefit greatly,” says Caritas Dhaka regional director Ronjon F. Rozario. The United States announced on Aug. 11 it was not reinstating Bangladesh to a list giving trade privileges to 122 developing countries. Dhaka, Delhi to fight fake currency

The joint task force of Bangladesh and Indian signed a joint declaration to tackle smugglings and counterfeit currency in the two countries. “The second such top security-level formal talks between the two countries especially on fake currency signed a joint declaration to work together against fake currency notes,” Additional Inspector General of Police M Moklesur Rahman told journalists on the second-day of the three-day bilateral meeting held at Police Headquarters in the capital city today, reports BSS. Bangladesh-Vietnam talk trade ties

They vowed to lift bilateral trade to 1 billion USD by 2016 from 800 million USD in 2014; convene the third meeting of the Joint Committee on Economic, Trade, Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation soon; and launch a policy consultation mechanism between the two Foreign Ministries. They agreed to effectively realise a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on agriculture, fisheries and animal livestock and another MoU on rice trade.
