At least three US Navy P-3 Orion surveillance planes were crushed “beyond repair” when unusually heavy snowfall swept across Japan in February, a US military daily reported Wednesday. A new venture ‘Tau Bangladesh’ has been launched by a New York-based growth-equity venture investment firm Tau Investment Management, LLC. Under its new venture, the company plans to invest US$ 200 million to buy minority ownership of large garment manufacturing enterprises in Bangladesh. Speaking at the launch of Tau Bangladesh in Dhaka, Oliver Niedermaier, CEO of Tau Investment, said they are investing in Bangladesh to help a few companies become stronger strategic suppliers by helping the factories decrease inefficiency and increase productivity, thereby helping workers, the environment and investors.

Stocks make strong turnaround on earning declarations  

Dhaka stocks, which ended Monday flat and witnessed fall in the previous few trading sessions, made a strong turnaround on Tuesday on earning declarations. DSEX, the benchmark index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), rose substantially by 1.25 percent or 56.52 points to reach at 4562.96 after falling down to the psychological support level of 4,500 points. Modi blamed for violence in Assam

Minority Affairs Minister K. Rahman Khan on Monday blamed BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for inciting violence which resulted in the killing of 31 Muslims in Assam by making a statement against Bangladesh illegal immigrants. Muslims were gunned down in three days, according to the police, by tribal militants who resent the presence of immigrants from neighboring Bangladesh. Modi had said last week that illegal immigrants from Bangladesh in West Bengal should have their “bags packed” in case he came to power, accusing the state government of being too soft.

WB suggests faster construction of Siddhirganj Power Plant  

The World Bank (WB) urged the authorities concerned to expedite construction of Siddhirganj 335 megawatts (MW) peaking power plant. The WB came up with the advice after routine review of the project implementation by a joint team of the multi-donor agency and the government. The team found 46 percent progress in the plant’s construction, which began in 2010.
