ICD goes into strategic alliance with AIBL
Al-Arafah Islami Bank Limited (AIBL), a leading Islamic bank in the country, announced on 29 March 2016 its strategic partnership with Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector (ICD), the private sector arm of the Islamic Development Bank Group. With this international footstep, AIBL is expected to attract growth capital of around USD 20 million from ICD through 10% equity subscription in the capital of AIBL.
Mr. Khaled Al Aboodi, the CEO of ICD stated that this strategic initiative reflects ICD’s continuous effort to play a catalyst role in the promotion of Islamic finance and private sector development in Bangladesh. Earlier, ICD committed USD 110 million for the manufacturing,
ADB forecasts 6.7pc growth for 2015-16
Bangladesh’s growth for this fiscal will improve marginally and stand at 6.7 percent driven by apparel export and domestic consumption, Asian Development Bank forecast today.
The improvement will be 0.1 percent increase from the 6.6 percent growth recorded last fiscal.
Higher growth will be driven by readymade garment export and a resilient domestic consumption, said ADB’s country director for Bangladesh Kazuhiko Higuchi.

ECNEC okays eight projects with TK 1,442cr
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) today approved eight development projects involving Taka 1,442 crore.
The approval came at the 25th meeting of the ECNEC in the current fiscal held at the NEC conference room in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar with ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Planning Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal, after the meeting, briefed newsmen about its outcome,

Registration opens for Water Window
The Global Resilience Challenge’s “Water Window” is open for registration. From 29 March registered entrants will be able to submit Concept Notes with innovative ideas and solutions to help flood prone communities across the Sahel, the Horn of Africa, and South and Southeast Asia reduce their exposure to flood risks and to continue to develop in the face of uncertainty.
Successful submissions will be eligible for up to US$1 million scaling-up grants or up to US$250,000 seed grants, says a press release.
The submissions should offer innovative solutions to the very real issues affecting flood prone
