$ 1m award for Bangladeshi innovators
GSK and Save the Children have launched their fourth annual $1 million Healthcare Innovation Award (HIA). The award rewards innovations in healthcare that help to reduce child deaths in developing countries and have the potential to reach even more children. Eligible innovations must have resulted in tangible improvements to under-5 child survival, be sustainable and have the scope to be scaled-up and replicated. Bangladesh-based BRAC won part of the prize fund in 2013.
The Award is one of a number of initiatives from GSK and Save the Children’s five-year partnership, which combines the two organisations’ expertise and skills with the aim to help ![]()
CAReMCH inks deal with Indin BLK Hospital
India’s eminent healthcare facility BLK Super Speciality Hospital has recently inked a strategic pact with CARe Medical College Hospital (CAReMCH) in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The pact aims to help CAReMCH become a leading healthcare destination for its people through educational, scientific and medical cooperation between the two institutions.
According to the agreement, New Delhi-based BLK Super Speciality Hospital will provide assistance to CAReMCH in capacity building for its health professionals, knowledge and skill transfer through its highly specialized pool of eminent doctors and world class infrastructure. $ 150m World Bank grant for health
The World Bank said on Sunday it has approved US$150 million in additional financing to help improve Bangladesh's health systems and services, bringing its total support for health projects in the country to US$508.9 million.
The support will help the government address health sector challenges, including sustaining and improving immunization coverage, improving deliveries for pregnant women at public 
health facilities and tackling multi-drug resistant tuberculosis, the World Bank said in a statement.

South Asia continues to remain polio free: WHO
The South-East Asia Region of the World Health Organization (WHO), comprising of 11 countries including Bangladesh, continues to remain polio free since the last case was reported in West Bengal, India, in January 2011.
