Political motives were behind enforced disappearance

The Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances today submitted its final report to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, stating that enforced disappearances in Bangladesh were largely politically motivated and carried out with involvement from the highest levels of the immediate past government.

The report titled “Unfolding the truth: a structural diagnosis of enforced disappearance in Bangladesh” was handed over at the State Guest House Jamuna this afternoon, according to a press release of the Chief Adviser’s press wing. [caption id="attachment_35062" align="alignleft" width="1600"]

Biman to purchase 14 Boeing aircraft in 2026

The board of Bangladeshi flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines (BG) has greenlit an order for 14 Boeing jets. No word on when the deal would be finalised.

The proposed deal comprises two Boeing 787-9s, eight 787-10 Dreamliners, and four 737 MAX 8s. This will double the airline’s current Boeing fleet. Formal negotiations on the deal terms between the carrier and Boeing will now begin following the board’s decision.

BCB seeks relocation of T20 WC match venue

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has formally requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to consider relocating all of Bangladesh’s matches of the T20 World Cup to a venue outside India.

Steps to be taken to reduce backlog: CJ

Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury today said positive steps would be taken to reduce the backlog of cases in courts through the adoption of technological measures.
