Police arrested eight leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations in Chuadanga as part of the ongoing nationwide ‘Operation Devil Hunt’.
They were arrested ti
ll midnight on Saturday (February 15).
The arrested are: Awami League member Ferdaus Hossain, 55, activist Siddiq Mia, 33, Almadanga Upazila Awami League vice-president Amirul Islam Montu, 57, Juranpur Union Awami League joint general secretary Matiar Rahman, 58, of Damurhuda Upazila, Awami League leader Mohidul Islam, 53, former president of Darshana Municipality Jubo League Ashraf Alam, 50, Asikuzzaman Sumon, 35, and banned Chhatra League leader Mamun Sarkar, 27.
Chuadanga Additional Superintendent of Police Kanak Kumar Das said that there were multiple cases registered against the arrested persons in respective police stations.
They have been handed over to the court.
