Ananda Shipyard & Slipways Ltd and world-famous US dredger manufacturer Ellicott Dredges LLC are assisting Bangladesh Government in regaining the glory of the riverine Bangladesh by supplying dredgers for maintaining the navigability of rivers to improve irrigation, check bank erosion and reduce flood damages.
Ellicott Dredges LLC and Ananda Shipyard & Slipways Ltd, a joint venture of the US-based Ellicott Dredges LLC and the largest ship building company Ananda Shipyard & Slipways Ltd will supply dredgers and required accessories to the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB).
The equipments include four of 26-inch dredgers, two of 20-inch dredgers, three of tug boats and necessary accessories costing Tk 545 crore.
State Minister of Water Resources Mohammad Nazrul Islam Bir Pratik visited the yard of Ananda Shipyard & Slipways Ltd at Meghnaghat on Tuesday (May 27, 2014).
Local lawmaker Manzurul Islam (Liton), Secretary of Water Resources Ministry Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan, Director General of Bangladesh Water development Board (BWDB) Md Shahidur Rahman, and senior enegineers were present.
After visiting the shipyard, state minister expressed satisfaction over the progress in the project work and also expressed firm determination of the government in development of ship building industry.
The state minister also recalled the contributions of Ananda Shipyard in exporting the first-ever ocean-bound ship from Bangladesh to Denmark.
Ananda Shipyard’s Deputy Managing Director Abdullah Nahid Niger said, Ananda Shipyard & Slipways Ltd and Ellicott Dredges LLC are working relentlessly for supplying the dredgers on time.
Implementation of the project was undertaken under the auspicious desire of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to help maintain navigability of the rivers of the country as well as protect river banks from erosion and improve irrigation and strengthen environment-friendly waterway transportation, Abdullah Nahid added.
