Ananda Shipyard hands over oil tanker to Navy

Ananda Shipyard & Slipways Ltd, the leading shipbuilder having exported the first ship from Bangladesh in 2008, has delivered a 2774 DWT (Dead Weight Ton) to Bangladesh Navy today on 06.11.2014 in a formal departure ceremony held at the Shipyard premises in Meghnaghat, Narayanganj. Shipping minister Mr. Shajahan Khan, MP attended the program as the chief guest and bade farewell to the Tanker.

PIC_1Ananda Shipyard was awarded with this modern replenishment oil tanker after it had been qualified both technically and financially in a competitive international tender, which was participated by eleven other renowned shipyards from Europe and Asia.  This was the first ever order received by any Bangladeshi Shipyard for a special naval vessel through international competitive tender.

This replenishment tanker is 80 meter in length and can sustain sea state 5 in refueling operation at a war field and can refuel two war ships simultaneously while all three ships are on the move. She can attain 24.5 km/hour at full load and is equipped with features like unmanned machinery and unrestricted navigation among others. She is expected to support Bangladesh navy’s fleet in war field and peace time exercise.

Shipping minister highly praised the shipbuilding activities of Ananda Shipyard and mentioned Ananda’s contribution in making Bangladesh known to the world as a shipbuilding nation.  He assured the continuation of his Government’s support in the further development of this sector.

Dr. Abduallhel Bari, a veteran in Shipbuilding and Chairman of Ananda Shipyard expressed his gratitude to Bangladesh Navy and the Government for placing this order with Ananda Shipyard and trusting Ananda’s technical prowess. He also added that this order is deemed as epoch-making in Bangladesh’s shipbuilding history.

Mrs. Afruja bari, Managing Director of Ananda Shipyard, Md. Monjurul Islam (Liton), MP, Gaibandha-1, high officials of Bangladesh navy, ministry of shipping, and Narayanganj district were present during the ceremony.
