The prize-distribution ceremony of the Asian Zonal (Zone-3.2) Chess Championship Open and Women was held last Wednesday at Kathmandu in Nepal. The World Chess Federation (FIDE) President Mr. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov distributed prizes among the winners. Mr. Gazi Shayiful Tarique, General Secretary of Bangladesh Chess
Federation delivered speech as a guest of hounor. Sports Minister of Nepal, Zone President Mr. Joshi, Mr. Mohammad Jahangir Islam Vice President of Bangladesh Chess Federation, Mr. Morsalin Ahmed Joint-Secretary and Mr. Shakil Meraj Executive Member of Bangladesh Chess Federation also present in the ceremony. Champion GM Ziaur Rahman received trophy, Gold Medal and fifteen hundred us dollars, runner-up GM Abdulla Al- Rakib got Silver Medal and one thousand us dollars, GM Enamul Hossain got Bronze medal and three hundred fifty us dollars. IM Mohammad Minhaz Uddin, GM Niaz Murshed, IM Abu Sufian Shakil and FM Debaraj Chatterjee also got cash prize. In women section champion WIM Shamima Akter Liza got Gold Medal, Trophy and one thousand us dollars, runner-up WFM Nazrana Khan Eva got Silver medal and five hundred dollars, WIM Rani Hamid got Bronze medal and two hundred fifty dollars. WFM Sharmin Sultana Shirin and Mahmuda Hoque Chowdhury Moly also got prize money. Premier Bank sponsored Bangladesh Chess team and Bangladesh became champion in both groups. 33 players from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Nepal participated in open group and 15 players from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Nepal participated in women group. Bangladesh will host country to organise the Asian Zonal 3.2 chess championship for 2017. FIDE President Mr. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and Zonal President Mr. Joshi gave assurance to give necessary support to Bangladesh for organising the zonal event in 2017.
Shahid Mufti Kashed Blitz Rating Chess Tournament
The Shahid Mufti Kashed Blitz Rating Chess Tournament organize by Association of Chess Players under the guidance of Bangladesh Chess Federation will start today (Friday) from 3:00 PM at chess hall-room. The event will be held in Swiss-League system and cash prize money will be given to the winners. Requested to all participants to present at playing venue today on or before 2:30 PM.
