Children learning disaster preparedness in Bangladesh
Bangladesh is working to enhance children’s understanding of disaster preparedness with the introduction of 10 new supplementary books for teaching the subject, which has been part of the education curriculum in primary and secondary schools since 2004.
“With these books, students will be taught about disaster… [preparedness] by rhymes and stories, so that they can understand the risks,” Shafikur Rahman, chairman of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB), told IRIN.

BB amends policy on single borrower exposure limit
Bangladesh Bank (BB) has amended its policy on single borrower exposure limit in order to comply with the recently incorporated Section-26 (Kha) of the Banking Companies Act (BCA), 1991 and further improve bank's credit risk management.

Legendary actress Suchitra Sen dies at 82
Legendary actress Suchitra Sen, who was also called Bengal’s Greta Garbo, died in Kolkata at 82 today.
The health condition of the actress had been in hospital since December 23 for treatment for a respiratory tract infection.
Ms Sen began her career with the Bengali film ‘Shesh Kothay’ in 1952 and is known for her role in Bimal Roy’s ‘Devdas’ (1955) and ‘Aandhi’ (1975).
