Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BWCCI) organized a workshop on Commercial Expansion of Banana Fiber Based Products on 18 May 2016 at Conference Room of Upazila Agriculture Office, Palashbari, Gaibandha.
The project ‘Socio- economic empowerment of women through promotion of natural fiber-based products from agricultural wastages’ under Bangladesh INSPIRED programme funded by European Union and Ministry of Industries, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh has been being implemented by BWCCI to build capacity of 2000 women entrepreneurs for producing handicrafts from banana

Agriculture a key driver in reducing poverty
Agriculture is a leading contributor to poverty reduction in Bangladesh since 2000, a new World Bank report said. The country now needs to shift towards high-value agriculture, including horticulture, livestock, and fisheries as well as greater value addition to improve farmers’ income and household nutrition.
The report launched on May 17, “Dynamics of Rural Growth in Bangladesh: Sustaining Poverty Reduction,” says pro-poor agricultural growth has stimulated the non-farm economy. It estimates that a 10 percent rise in farm income generates a 6 percent rise in non-farm income. Hence, the growth of the non-farm economy largely depends on agriculture. Oman to set minimum wage for Bangladeshi maids
A policy to set a minimum wage for Bangladeshi housemaids working in Oman is being considered, an official from the Bangladesh embassy in Oman said.
“Nothing has been finalized. However a study is on,” Zahed Ahmed, a senior official from the Bangladesh embassy, said.
