Bank Asia tied up in strategic alliance with one of the world’s largest Online Payment Gateway Service (OPGS) provider ‘Payoneer Inc. USA’ to facilitate Bangladeshi freelancers and other professionals receive their payments promptly, easily and cheaper means.
Dr. Atiur Rahman, Governor of Bangladesh Bank formally launched the service of Payoneer, first time in Bangladesh, in a function held at a local hotel in the capital city Dhaka today (Thursday, 8 Jan 2015).
Mr. A Rouf Chowdhury, Chairman of Bank Asia, Mr. Scott H. Galit, CEO of Payoneer, Mr. Patrick De Courcy, Mr. A.M. Nurul Islam, Vice Chairman of Bank Asia, Mr. Rumee A Hossain, Chairman of Board Executive Committee, Mr. Shameem Ahsan, President of BASIS and Mr. Md. Mehmood Husain, President & Managing Director of Bank Asia, Mr. Md. Ahsan Ullah, Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank and Mr. Zia Arfin, SVP & Head of International Division, Bank Asia, among others, were present.
Introduction of Payoneer in Bangladesh is the second venture of Bank Asia in the OPGS after ‘Payza’ in March 2012. Payoneer supports millions of business and other professionals in more than 200 countries by facilitating seamless cross-border payment.
In Bangladesh more than 2.5 lac freelancers are directly involved in exporting their services generating earnings of more than $214 million in a year (last fiscal).
It is expected that Bank Asia’s alliance with Payoneer will help Bangladeshis to get payment quickly. This global e-commerce application service will ultimately encourage and popularize freelancing in Bangladesh, increase remittance inflow and support advancement of technology infrastructure.
