BB 6 top officials including 4 dty governors ‘forced to resign’

Extreme instability has erupted at the Bangladesh Bank (BB) as nearly 200 officials and employees staged a protest demanding the resignation of the central bank governor, four deputy governors, advisers, and the head of the Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU).

During the protest, they entered the governor’s floor in the central bank’s main building and compelled all the deputy governors to sign blank papers.

Witnesses reported that four deputy governors and the head of the BFIU have since “resigned” from their positions, succumbing to the pressure from the disgruntled officials.

Soldiers provided security during the incident. Governor Abdur Rouf Talukder was not present at the time.

The protesting officials and employees were not carrying any party banners.

Witnesses further revealed that the protesters accused the top officials of Bangladesh Bank of being responsible for irregularities and corruption within the banking sector.

They argued that good governance would not return to the banking sector as long as these officials remained in power.

According to witnesses, the protesters first entered Deputy Governor Kazi Sayedur Rahman’s office, pressuring him to resign. Consequently, Kazi Sayedur Rahman wrote his resignation on a blank sheet of paper, signed it, and left the bank.
