Calls for more textile transparency

Rice production up 2.7pc from last year

Bangladesh has produced around 34.449 million tons of rice, basis milled, in FY 2013-14 (July - June), up about 2.7% from around 33.833 million tons produced in FY 2012-13, according to provisional official estimates from the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), report local sources. BD needs ‘legal instrument to have siphoned off money back’  

Though there is a growing trend of siphoning off money abroad, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) is unable to take any concrete step to recover the laundered money deposited in the Swiss Bank by Bangladeshis due to lack of legal instrument, reports UNB. “We (Bangladesh) don’t have any agreement with the Swiss authorities in this regard. Forex reserves crosses $21b again

Forex-res1Kazi Saidur Rahman, General Manager of Bangladesh Bank Forex Reserve and Treasury Management Department said, the reserves stood at $21.12 billion on Thursday. According to the central bank, the reserves earlier exceeded $21 billion on June 16 but depleted following payment of $970 million import bills to the Asian Clearing Union (ACU) on July 6.
