PPP for improved public sector auditing in BD
In recent years, there has been growing realization of the need for collaboration between private and public sector audit profession for ensuring effective oversight over expenditure management and quality audit in the public sector. A new Audit Act on the anvil is expected to address some of these constraints and empower the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) to use the private sector audit service in fully discharging its mandated responsibilities, said a policy paper presented in the workshop on “Public Private Partnership for Improved Public Sector Auditing in Bangladesh” organized by The World Bank, Dhaka at its office on Wednesday, 19 October 2016.

WB to provide additional $ 1b for childcare
World Bank President Jim Yong Kim today declared an additional USD 1 billion fund for Bangladesh to develop childcare in the country.
The financing will be disbursed in the next two years and will be to develop the situation of child health and nutrition, the visiting WB chief said in a briefing.
Kim made the announcement at a joint press conference after holding talks with Bangladesh Finance Minister AMA Muhith at his ministry office in Dhaka.

Bangladesh, China sign 26 deals, MoUs
Bangladesh and China today signed 26 agreements and Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) during the landmark visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The agreements and MoU include boosting cooperation in counter-terrorism and infrastructure development and

Exports fall 5.6pc in September
Country’s exports fell 5.6 percent in September from the same period a year earlier to $2.24 billion, the Export Promotion Bureau said on Monday, 18 percent below target.
For July-September, the first quarter of the country´s 2016-17 financial year, exports rose 4 percent to $8 billion from a year earlier, the Export Promotion Bureau said.
Shipments of readymade garments, comprising knitwear and woven items, totalled $6.66 
billion in July-September, up 3.5 percent on-year.

Enhancing Dhaka-Beijing cooperation stressed
Leading economists, academics and policy researchers today stressed that Dhaka- Beijing cooperation should be further enhanced in the areas of energy, power, agriculture, education and human resources development.
They said that smart negotiations and smooth implementation of Chinese funded projects are similarly important to encourage Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from China with favourable terms and conditions, BSS reports.
