Help BD recover stolen money, pursue NY Fed: WB
On February 5, 2016, cyber-robbers made off with $81 million dollars (US) after successfully executing a series of transactions that traveled through the New York Federal Reserve Bank and moved money to accounts in Sri Lanka and the Philippines.
As the process of investigating and attempting to recover the illegally purloined funds continues, the World Bank has stepped into the fray. It has proposed to help the Bangladesh Bank in its efforts to recover the stolen money and to enhance Bangladesh’s cyber security. The offer came via letter sent to the Bangladesh Bank on Sunday.

China to help Bangladesh build deep seaport: Envoy
China would help Bangladesh build its first deep seaport at any site in the country to facilitate trade and business, Chinese Ambassador Ma Mingqiang said today.
“China is willing to cooperate with any other country in this regard...the cooperation is open and it is not exclusive,” he told diplomatic correspondents at Jatiya Press Club here.

New trade portal makes business easier in Bangladesh
With the launch of its new trade portal, the government of Bangladesh’s is making import and export information more easily accessible to traders interested in doing business in the country.
The portal, a website that provides documents and information on the trade process, is hosted by the Ministry of Commerce with support from the World Bank Group and is expected to accelerate growth in Bangladesh and increase investments.
The Bangladesh Trade Portal will make it easier for traders and investors to comply with regulatory requirements associated with the importation and exportation of goods as well as 
Fazle Kabir to become new BB governor: Muhith
Former secretary of Finance Division Fazle Kabir will be made new governor of Bangladesh Bank, Finance Minister AMA Muhith said today.
Kabir, now in Washington, will join his new post on March 18, Muhith told reporters at the Secretariat in Dhaka.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is expected to make announcement in this regard around 3:00pm, added the minister.

Philippines prepares charges in alleged hacking of BB
The Philippines’ Anti-Money Laundering Council is preparing charges against a number of people allegedly involved in the illegal transfer of more than $80 million from a Bangladesh Bank account at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York to a number of Philippine accounts.
“There is a clear violation of our anti-money-laundering law,” council chairman Amando Tetangco, who is also the governor of the Philippines’ central bank, told The Wall Street Journal in a brief interview late Saturday. He refused to identify those who may be charged but said more details would be revealed during Senate hearings on March 15.
