Thai businesses keen to invest in Bangladesh
Thai entrepreneurs are in dialogues with some Bangladeshi businessmen to invest in the country and exploit its immense business potential, senior Thai government officials said yesterday.
As part of the efforts, they held a discussion with the leaders of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) in Dhaka.
“Bangladesh has numerous promising sectors for investment thanks to its cost competitiveness, strategic location and the incentive packages offered by the government,” said Chokedee Kaewsang, deputy secretary general of Thailand Board of Investment, the Daily Star reports.

Pak stranded in Bangladesh: AGP given time to reply
The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed the government’s top attorney more time to submit a reply regarding the repatriation of 300,000 Pakistanis stranded in some 70 camps in Bangladesh.

India eases visa system for Bangladesh
Amid suffering of Bangladeshi visa seekers, India today announced exemption of online ‘appointment date’ system for processing visa applications of all categories, except tourists visas, with effect from February 1.
According to a press release of the High Commission of India, the applications will be accepted in all categories of visas except tourists on a “walk-in basis” without an ‘appointment date’ at the Indian Visa Application Centres (IVAC) at Gulshan, Motijheel and Dhanmondi in Dhaka and IVAC, Khulna.

Several diplomats from various countries including the US, Australia and others, as well as UN representatives in Dhaka, have termed the ongoing violence as contradictory to democracy. They have asked the government what solution there was to emerge from this violent situation.
