Dependence on India for cotton increases

Bangladesh's dependence on India for cotton is on an upward trajectory as reports suggest the country imports 49 per cent cotton from India to meet its demand for textile industry. Clarke Energy to supply GE’s diesel engines for Walton

Walton Group has selected Clarke Energy to supply three of GE’s new 616 diesel engines to generate on-site power at Walton Group’s factory in Gazipur, Bangladesh. The three 2.5-megawatt (MW) engines are the first 616 diesel engines to be deployed in Bangladesh. Clarke Energy is GE’s authorized multi gas and diesel engine distributor in Bangladesh. Bangladesh allows jute export to Pakistan

Bangladesh has allowed export of 11,000 tons of jute to Pakistan, which was booked before exports were banned in November 2015, but shortage may still occur as Islamabad has not taken up the matter with Dhaka to get the issue resolved immediately, says a local industry official. “Pakistan Jute Mills Association will meet local demand after receiving jute consignments for which letters of credit were established before imposition of the ban on exports by the government of Bangladesh,” a spokesman for the association said in a statement on Thursday. With sufficient supply, he said, the jute industry would be in a position to meet the demand of federal and provincial governments this year.
