Key challenge to accelerate private investments in BD
Bangladesh has successfully come out from LDC to a lower middle income group. However, in order to be categorized as a middle income country by 2021, Bangladesh has to consistently maintain the status for the next six years. But without a solid industrial base, adequate infrastructure, un-interrupted power supply, exploration of natural resources (gas, coal etc.), skilled works force etc., it will be difficult to sustain the present growth rate or even achieve higher growth, said ICC Bangladesh President Mahbubur Rahman while he was presenting the Executive Board Report.

Registration opens for Water Window
The Global Resilience Challenge’s “Water Window” is open for registration. From 29 March registered entrants will be able to submit Concept Notes with innovative ideas and solutions to help flood prone communities across the Sahel, the Horn of Africa, and South and Southeast Asia reduce their exposure to flood risks and to continue to develop in the face of uncertainty.
Successful submissions will be eligible for up to US$1 million scaling-up grants or up to US$250,000 seed grants, says a press release.

1st direct container vessel form India to Bangladesh
Krishnapatnam Port, India’s largest all-weather; deep water port on the east-coast earmarked a historical moment for India's bilateral trade and commerce as the first direct container vessel, part of coastal shipping agreement to facilitate trade between India and Bangladesh, set sail from the port on 28th March 2016.
The trade agreements which were signed during the reign of the then Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1974 were revived back after a period of four decades during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Dhaka last year.

BD rejects P10m return from hacked money
The Bangladesh Ambassador to the Philippines rejected an offer of a remittance company to return P10 million from its profits as an apology over the hacked $81 million.
The offer was made by Salud Bautista, president of PhilRem Service Corporation, during the seven-hour public hearing by the Senate Blue Ribbon committee on the money laundering issue involving the Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation.
