Robi officials have bid farewell to their immediate-past Managing Director and CEO, Supun Weerasinghe at an employee townhall event held on Tuesday evening, 1 November 2016.
On that evening, Supun handed a cricket bat to Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, the company’s first Bangladeshi Managing Director and CEO. The cricket bat had “From Lankan Lion to Bengal Tiger” inscribed on it, marking the completion of the smooth succession at Robi’s top leadership position.

By government accounts, four foreign-backed cellphone operators owe $500 million to Bangladesh in unpaid taxes. By the companies’ accounts, the figure is closer to $50 million — if it isn’t zero.

Bangladesh’s first ever merger proposal of two mobile phone operators - Robi and Airtel - has got the final approval from the telecom regulator.
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) in a meeting today cleared the proposal terming it as a “positive move” for the telecom industry of the country, BSS reports.

Don’t provide info to fraudsters: BTRC
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) on Monday issued a notice asking all mobile phone subscribers not to provide personal and biometric SIM registration-related information to fraudsters seeking over phone.
According to the notice, fraud/criminal gangs are taking away customers’ personal and biometric SIM-related information, and PINs of mobile financial accounts, including bKash, through making phone calls and sending SMSs in the name of BTRC officials and different
