Supun leaves for Dialog Axiata

Robi officials have bid farewell to their immediate-past Managing Director and CEO, Supun Weerasinghe at an employee townhall event held on Tuesday evening, 1 November 2016.

On that evening, Supun handed a cricket bat to Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, the company’s first Bangladeshi Managing Director and CEO. The cricket bat had “From Lankan Lion to Bengal Tiger” inscribed on it, marking the completion of the smooth succession at Robi’s top leadership position.

Supun will return to Dialog Axiata Plc, Sri Lanka’s premier connectivity provider in the image-1capacity of the Group’s Deputy Chief Executive and CEO designate. Supun will be appointed Group Chief Executive Officer of Dialog effective 1 January 2017 upon completion of the transition from its legendary CEO Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya who has earlier been appointed as the Regional Chief Executive Officer for South Asia Region of Axiata Group.

Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim, Axiata’s President and Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO); Regional CEO for South Asia, Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya; Senior leadership team of Axiata along with the members of Robi’s Management Council and staff were also present to grace the occasion.

Along with Supun, Robi teammates also gave farewell to its Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Yap Wai Yip who would be heading back to Axiata Corporate Centre in Kuala Lumpur to take charge as Axiata’s Group Financial Controller.

The changeover in leadership marks the culmination of the succession programme planned and executed over the past several years centred on the Accelerated Leadership Development Programme of the Axiata Group.
