Clash at BAF Base in Cox’s Bazar leaves 1 dead

The Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) base in Cox’s Bazar came under an unexpected attack today (24 February) by a group of miscreants from the neighbouring Samiti Para area, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

“In response, the Bangladesh Air Force is taking the necessary measures to address the situation,” stated a press release signed by ISPR Assistant Director Ayesha Siddiqua.

Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin confirmed that a confrontation between local residents and BAF personnel occurred around midday.

“One person has been killed, and several others have been injured in the incident,” he told the media.

He further added, “The cause of the clash will be investigated through discussions with both parties, and appropriate measures will be taken accordingly.”

Saiful Islam, the officer in charge of the police box at Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital, reported that the incident took place at approximately 12pm.

“Shihab Kabir, a 30-year-old local trader, was shot during the clash. He is the son of Nasir Uddin from Samiti Para in Ward 1,” stated the police officer.

A correspondent at the scene reported that security forces were preventing anyone from approaching the site of the clash.
