Construction of 3 public toilets in city kicks off

Initiative for introducing a planned sanitation system in the capital has been taken. As part of this, works of installing three public toilets was started in city’s Indira Road, Tejgaon Truck Stand and Nabisco Intersection.

Photo-1-1Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Dr Rakhal Chandra Barman today inaugurated the construction work by laying foundation stones of those toilets.

He hoped they would be able to establish a planned sanitation system for the city dwellers.

In last year, Dhaka North and Dhaka South City Corporations, Dhaka WASA and Wateraid Bangladesh inked a joint MoU to make the public toilet usable and hygienic.

Wateraid and H&M Consus Foundation are jointly providing financial and technical assistances for constructing the three public toilets.

Wateraid Bangladesh Representative Dr Khairul Islam said they are working to introduce an effective public toilet management system in the country.

In a survey of 2011 conducted by the Wateraid found that over half of 47 public toilets are unusable and unhygienic.
