Consumers to get beef at Tk 650 per kg during Ramadan

bdreports24 Desk:

The government will sell beef at Tk 650 per kg through mobile trucks during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan so that consumers can get essential protein sources along with mutton, milk, eggs, and fish, as part of its regular initiative at an affordable price during Ramadan.

Farida Akhter, the Fisheries and Livestock Adviser, announced this today after an event at the Agricultural Research Council in Farmgate, Dhaka.

“The ministry initially decided not to sell beef and mutton this year. However, the government has now reconsidered and decided to include them in the sales program,” she said.

Director General of the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate (NCRPD), Mohammad Alim Akhtar Khan, has warned oil suppliers that imposing conditions on edible oil sales will result in strict punishments.

Market inspections have confirmed that consumers are being forced to buy rice, flour, tea leaves, and other products along with edible oil, despite denials from refining companies.

“If we find such practices, both companies and dealers will face fines,” he said.

He made these comments at a meeting held at the TCB building in Kawran Bazar on Sunday.
