Denim Expo: Hopes of boosting exports

The second edition of the Bangladesh Denim Expo Bangladesh Denim Expo ended on Tuesday by setting a target of earning US$7.0 billion in revenues by 2021 through denim export to world markets.

Denim LogoOrganizers, participants and buyers expressed their satisfaction with the expo, saying it will help creating a platform for denim stakeholders and make Bangladesh a one-stop sourcing platform for the denim industry. “We’re planning to set up offices in the capital city of Dhaka and will expedite operations in Bangladesh,” says Levent Cayli, managing director of the Denimco, a Turkish denim maker, to SPORTSWEAR INTERNATIONAL.

Not only Denimco, but also many globally renowned denim makers and importers are now interested in expanding in Bangladesh, which has become a major supplier of denim products offering lower prices and high quality.

Twenty-five denim and jeans manufacturers and enterprises from the US, Spain, Japan, India, Pakistan, Thailand, Turkey, China, San Marino and the host country of Bangladesh took part in the exposition held at the Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in Dhaka.

“The response from global brands and retailers who feel Bangladesh is attractive for sourcing denim at reasonable prices has been overwhelming,” says Mostafiz Uddin, managing director of Denim Expert Limited, organizer of the fair, to SPORTSWEAR INTERNATIONAL.

Mostafiz Uddin added that The Bangladesh Denim Expo looks forward to hosting the next exhibition on November 11 and 12 of this year.
