DTI, JTI sign MoU

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between Dhaka Tobacco Industries (DTI) and Japan Tobacco International (JTI) was held at Utshab Hall of the Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

02The MoU reaffirms the commitment of DTI and JTI in terms of bilateral knowledge and information sharing as well as technology research and development for the future.

Mr. Sheikh Nasir Uddin, Chairman of Akij Group on behalf of DTI, and Mr. Adonis Fineza, Country Manager, Bangladesh on behalf of JTI signed the MoU. Mr. Sk. Bashir Uddin, Managing Director, Akij Group; Mr. Mostofazzaman, Head of Sales & trade Marketing; Mr. Taslim Kabir, Head of Brands, DTI along with high officials from DTI and JTI were present.

Dhaka Tobacco Industries came to the fold of Akij Group in late seventies when Government decided to disinvest and hand over the factory to the private sector from the nationalized sector.The Factory is located at Morkun near Tongi.

Japan Tobacco International was formed in 1999 when Japan Tobacco Inc. acquired the non-US operations of tobacco company R.J. Reynolds. JTI’s remarkable brands are Winston, Camel, Benson & Hedges (exclusively in the European Union market) Mevius and LD. JTI will jointly operate in Bangladesh with Dhaka Tobacco Industries.
