Govt takes action against mob violence

Staff Reporter:

Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has stated that action is being taken against all groups involved in mob violence, not just any specific faction. He emphasized the need for public awareness regarding mob-related activities.

Speaking at the 30th anniversary celebration of the Bangladesh Coast Guard in Agargaon on Monday (February 17), the adviser reiterated the government’s commitment to tackling disorderly crowds and ensuring public safety.

Regarding corruption, Chowdhury noted that while corruption has significantly decreased over the past six months, it has not yet reached a tolerable level. He acknowledged that corruption exists in almost every sector and stressed that curbing it could accelerate national progress.

He also announced that police verification procedures have been abolished to reduce public suffering. Furthermore, strict measures will be taken to prevent Rohingya refugees from obtaining National Identity Cards (NID), and action will be taken against those who have already acquired them unlawfully.

The adviser urged Coast Guard personnel to perform their duties with integrity, patriotism, discipline, and dedication. He highlighted the Coast Guard’s crucial role in ensuring the security of the country’s internal waterways. To enhance the force’s operational capacity, the government has recently initiated the procurement of armored, bulletproof high-speed boats, helicopters, rescue drones, and the construction of nine patrol vessels.

During the event, 40 Coast Guard members were awarded medals in four categories for their bravery and service contributions.
