Huawei has joined the ranks of the most revered brands in the world. Interbrand’s Best Global Brands Report places Huawei 94th in its top 100 ranking.
It’s the first time Huawei joins strong brands such as Apple, Google and Coca-Cola on the list. Huawei is also the first Chinese company to be named a top 100 brand.
Interbrand noted Huawei’s leadership among telecom equipment makers, but also highlighted their pivot to provide solutions to enterprises and consumers. “Huawei is poised to dominate key areas of the IT market—from mobile phones to carrier-grade networks,” the consultancy said in a statement.
Having to sell to businesses and consumers – rather than just telecom carriers – led Huawei to launch its first-ever marketing campaigns three years ago. Huawei now stands as the No. 3 smartphone maker in the world behind Samsung and Apple. Huawei’s Enterprise group is a fast-rising challenger in the IT industry and provides solutions for videoconferencing, cloud, storage, networking and security to various industries, including education, banking, retail and energy.
“Huawei’s rapid growth and long-term investments in its brand helped it earn a place among the world’s most valuable brands,” said Jez Frampton, Interbrand’s chief executive.
IDC analyst Francisco Jeronimo told CNET that Huawei has been “recognized by consumers as a strong brand that provides affordable products.”
“Using a Huawei handset provides an experience similar to many other devices from top brands,” Jeronimo said. “I can get a good experience and good specs for a much lower price.”
Huawei is one of five new entrants to enter the Best Global Brands ranking this year. The other newcomers are delivery service DHL, luxury car maker Land Rover, delivery service FedEx, and luxury fashion brand Hugo Boss.
