ICAB gets new President, Vice Presidents

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB), the national professional accounting body, has elected Masih Malik Chowdhury as President and A F Nesaruddin FCA, Kamrul Abedin FCA and Nasim Anwar FCA as Vice Presidents of the institute for the year -2015.

Masih Malik Chowdhury FCAThe new office bearers of ICAB were elected by the members of the council –ICAB shortly before holding 42nd Annual General Meeting chaired by incumbent ICAB President Showkat Hossain FCA at ICAB auditorium on Saturday, 27 December 2014.

Short Profile of ICAB president:

Masih Malik Chowdhury MA (Econ) LLB FCA had his school and college education in Sylhet. Son of Dr Malikur Raza Chowdhury he did his Honors and Masters degree from Economics Department, University of Dhaka and became an ACA in 1981. A fellow since 1986 he is the founder Partner of Masih Muhith Haque & Co., Chartered Accountants on June 1, 1985.

Mr. Chowdhury is an Entrepreneur and Chairman/ Director in few Private Companies in merchant banking, capital market, telecom, healthcare & education. He is also a GoB nominee in Board of Director of few Government Bodies like Micro-credit Regulatory Authority (MRA), Social Development Foundation (SDF) & Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB).

As passion he contributes to Journals and Dailies infrequently. . He had also served General Electric Company (GEC) of Bangladesh as Controller of Accounts and Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) as Additional Chief Accountant between 1981 to 1985.

A member of ICAB Council since 2004 he was a Vice President of ICAB in 2005. The Treasurer of Bangladesh Economic Association, he presented papers in Seminars on national and professional issues under BEA, SAFA and ICAB among others. He has been Secretary General of Polli Shishu Foundation of Bangladesh, a national NGO. He is a life member in many associations including BEA, BUP, DUEDAA, Azad Sporting Club, Sandhani, Asiatic Society, Muslim Shahitto Shongshod & Sylhet Ratno Foundation only to name a few.

Short profile of Vice Presidents:

A F Nesaruddin FCA was born in 1956. After completing B. Com (Hon’s) and M.Com in Finance from University of Dhaka, he started studying Chartered Accountancy in 1981. He became an Associate Member in 1984 and Fellow Member of ICAB in 1989. He is a Fellow Member of ICSB as well.

Mr. Nesaruddin, a Council Member for the first time in 2013, is a partner of Hoda Vasi Chowdhury & Co., Chartered Accountants. He has been working for different standing and non-standing Committees of ICAB for many years since 1984. Before starting public practice in 1998, Mr. Nesaruddin served in senior executive positions with Duncan Brothers and associate companies and also was in the employment for one year with an investment company in Saudi Arabia.

He is a regular contributor to leading national dailies especially on taxation, corporate governance and other professional interests. He is a member of the Board of Rural Electrification Board (REB) and Independent Director, IIDFC Securities Ltd. He is a former director of Sonali Bank ltd and nominated by the Government. He is a Past President and Assistant Governor in Rotary, member Kurmitola Golf Club and Army Golf Club as a passionate golfer and involved with a number of social and charitable organizations in various capacities.

Kamrul Abedin FCA is a partner of M. J. Abedin & Co., Chartered Accountants, which is an independent member firm of Moore Stephens International Limited. He is serving this 49-year-old firm for more than 28 years. After having his Masters in Accounting from the University of Dhaka he joined M. J. Abedin and Co. as articled student. In the year 1986 right after becoming Associate Member of ICAB, he joined the firm as partner. In the year 1992, he became Fellow Member of ICAB and was Vice President in 2014. Earlier he served Dhaka Regional Committee (DRC)-ICAB for consecutive 2 terms 1995-1997 and 1998-2000 and was Honorary Chairman of DRC-ICAB in 1998 and Honorary Secretary in 1995.

Nasim Anwar FCA was born in 1966. He became an Associate Member in 1993 and Fellow Member in 1998 of ICAB. He is a Partner of Syful Shamsul Alam & Co. Chartered Accountants. Before starting Public Practice, Mr. Anwar served the T.K. Group of Companies as a Finance Director.

Mr. Anwar has been in the Council since 2007. He was the Vice President of ICAB in the years 2008, 2010, 2011 & 2014. He has been serving the ICAB for its different standing and non-standing Committees for many years. He is also a Director of Telephone Shilpa Sangstha Limited.
