Friday will mark 100 days to go to the first match of the ICC World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014, with the unveiling of countdown clocks simultaneously at midnight on Thursday in the three host cities of Chittagong, Dhaka and Sylhet. Band shows by popular local music groups and celebratory displays will also be part of the celebrations that will start at 2200 local time on Thursday and carry into the early hours of Friday.
Bangladesh are not unfamiliar to celebrate the countdown programme in fact. The country also marked the Cricket World Cup 2011 with much fanfare and enthusiasm. Former India captain Saurav Ganguly that enthralled the crowd attending the countdown programme but this time, the BCB is yet to invite any renowned personality.
Representatives of Bangladesh men’s and women’s teams as well as government, ICC and BCB officials will join fans at the selected locations for the T20 countdown programme.

 

BCB President Nazmul Hassan and ICC Events Manager Chris Tetley will attend the event in Dhaka along with cricketers Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmud Ullah and national women’s team captain Salma Khatun.
Mayor Manzur Alam and BCB Director AZM Nasir will take part in celebrations to be held in Chittagong where Bangladesh players Nasir Hossain, Shohag Gazi and Sathira Jakir will also be present, while the city Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury and BCB Director Shafiul Alam Chowdhury will be joined by cricketers Anamul Haque and Jahanara Ahmed at the function in Sylhet.
The first match of the ICC World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014 will take place between the host and Afghanistan at Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on 16 March 2014.
The first phase of tickets sales for the ICC World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014 started on November 17 and all the available tickets sold out within days.
