The point to point basis and average inflation rate has decreased by 0.1 percent in February, Finance Minister AMA Muhith told Parliament on Tuesday.
Answering a written question of M Abdul Latif (Chittagong-11), he said that in February, the point to point basis and average inflation rate was 7.4 percent and 7.5 percent respectively.
He mentioned that in January, the point to point basis and average inflation rate was 7.5 percent and 7.6 percent respectively, reports UNB.
The Finance Minister said that the government has taken several initiatives to reduce the severe pressure of inflation.
The initiatives included following the expansion friendly cautionary monetary policy; keeping the trend of skilled expenditure management; following the production friendly import policy; selling essential items like rice, lentil, edible oil, sugar and flower in the open market through the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) at reduced price compared to local market.
Besides, the government has ensured smooth supply and distribution of food grains while the amount of subsidy has been increased for the farmers to reduce production cost and taxes were reduced on different essential items to reduce the inflation rate.
