JU BCU protests development fee hike

A left-leaning political organization, Bangladesh Chhatra Union (BCU) of Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit on Sunday protested to hike departmental development fee and also demanded to cancel it for the entry’s batch under the academic session 2015-16.

ju 22A press release was said yesterday, signed by BSU president and general secretary of JU unit Tonmoy Dhar and Dipanjal Shidhanta Kajol respectively on Sunday.

Departmental source said that Chemistry, Botany, Biotechnology and Genetics Engineering department increased 2000 tk, while Economics department increased Tk 2500 from Tk 5000 to Tk 7500 and Public Administration department increased Tk. 500.

The press release also added that every year BSU demanded to cancel the decision of hiking development fee. But the authorities do not heed to decrease it. Most of the students come from the rural area while their financial crisis is very low.

Acknowledging the matter, Prof. Nurul Haque, Chairman of Economics department said “the prices of every necessary thing have risen day by day. But the financial supports are not increased as the same way. Considering the present cost of printing questions and other inevitable matters, we have raised the cost.’

JU registrar Abu Bakr, said every department can take maximum Tk. 10,000 considering of their respective departmental demand.

Mentionable, the entry process also started from January 3 and will continue till on 6 January.
