With the recent change in government on August 5, a new development has emerged: a feature film about BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has been announced. Titled “Mother of Democracy,” the movie has already been registered with the Directors’ Guild by director MK Zaman. The film is being produced by Akand Entertainment PLC, with the script reportedly completed and pre-production work in progress. Filming is scheduled to begin on September 25.
Director A K Zaman explained: “This decision wasn’t made overnight. We’ve been working on this film for quite some time, gathering extensive details about Madam (Begum Zia) along the way. We’ve also obtained her permission. This film is essential for understanding and learning about the true democracy of Bangladesh.”
While the film’s permission, funding, title, script, and shooting date have all been finalized, the production team is keeping the casting of Khaleda Zia’s role under wraps. The director hinted, “There will definitely be surprises in the casting. We wouldn’t undertake such a significant project without ensuring the right talent. The casting will be revealed just before filming begins.”
Interestingly, although the production process for “Mother of Democracy” began some time ago, it was officially registered with the Directors’ Guild on August 18.
On that same day, Apu Biswas announced her withdrawal from the film “Sheikh Rasel’s Artnad,” directed by Salman Haidar, in which she was supposed to portray former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Reports suggest that other films about Sheikh Hasina’s life currently in production are also being put on hold. Over the past 16 years, numerous films, including “A Daughter’s Tale,” have portrayed the life of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
